They unite under the name of a party. What do you call them - partycles? No, I mean politicians. You leave your present, future even past on them…They remain almost always beyond reach even at the time of your desperate need; the invisibility like God. The ‘Gods’ of course themselves come down to you (directly or via their agents) once in many years during the election festivals. They then bend towards you, appear to listen to (or pretend to) your unending list of grievances: the drinking water or sanitation and health or your children’s education - all that trivial things! Promises are made and then the vanishing act; they disappear as well as their promises and only to reappear with the promise of keeping the promises once again.
The Gods create a maya called ‘democracy’. And in the realm of democracy things can happen in all sorts of amazing possibilities, all in the interest of Nation (hah!). Their own interests keep swinging and a game of s(up)port comes into play. It is difficult to read the minds of Gods! They coalesce or breakaway so dynamically that defies your sense of logic. And in the process of coalition there are all sorts of possible permutations and combinations happen. The target is to reach a magic number (=272 for India). The game turns out to be so fascinating that you land up in the puzzle of ‘game theory’ quite inevitably.
Coalition is a very tricky matter. Parties of all sizes 1, 2, 3…(read the number of MP’s) or the individual politicians drift around and help evolve a nearly intractable complex phenomenon of coalition politics. The job is done once the sum reaches the magic figure. That’s it. All that is in multiparty democracy.
But to reach the goal is not easy at all! That is why the game turns into a trade. Some people call this ‘horse trading’. Anyway, this is only a process to supply some adhesives so that the smaller entities may get stuck to the bigger ones at least for a while - all in the name of democracy! An interesting nucleation phenomenon indeed! (Don’t think of Nuclear Deal at the moment.) What’s next?
The game never ends. Instability may occur any moment even after this nucleation. The game continues and in the mean time we are made to forget the trivial demands as mentioned before.
